Hollow Knight: Silksong
— specifically, the NPCs that absolutely steal the show. I've been replaying the game in 2026, and honestly, Team Cherry didn't just fill Pharloom with enemies and bosses; they packed it with characters that'll make you laugh, gasp, and maybe tear up a little. Hornet finally has a voice this time around, and she's a fantastic lead, but the supporting cast? Chef's kiss. 🤌 Let's go over the best characters you'll meet, without dropping any major story spoilers. Trust me, you'll want to experience the gut punches yourself.
Little Pilgrim: The Heartbreaker of Bone Bottom
One of the first faces you'll bump into is the Little Pilgrim in Bone Bottom. Generic name? Sure. Generic character? No way. They're chilling near the town bench, and you end up in a civil but spicy debate about religion — which, by the way, is a major theme in
Silksong
. The real gut punch comes later. I won't spoil it, but let's just say this little bug's story arc will stick with you long after the credits roll. Keep some tissues handy. 😢
Sherma: The Pacifist Pilgrim With Serious Style
Sherma is another pilgrim, but they're way more focused on their quest. You'll meet them outside Bone Bottom in The Marrow, and if you open a gate for them, they'll pop up all over the place — Far Fields, Bellhart, the Blaster Steps, you name it. Here's the wild part: Sherma looks like a daring samurai with that hat, but they avoid combat entirely and still travel unharmed between biomes. Curious? Absolutely. Respectable? Totally. They're a messenger of peace, and somehow that makes them one of the most intriguing characters in the game.
Shakra: The Mapmaker Who Actually Does Stuff
Shakra is the mapmaker, and you'll first run into her in The Marrow. Up until The Citadel, she's waiting in every biome to sell you maps and map-based accessories. But here's the thing — she's way more active in the story than Cornifer ever was in the first game. There's even a moment in Hunter's March where you fight alongside her. That's one of the coolest sequences in
Silksong
, hands down. Shakra is a ride-or-die ally, not just a shopkeeper. 🗺️
The Bell Beast: From Boss to Best Friend
The Bell Beast is one of the first big bosses you'll face in The Marrow. Intimidating? At first, yeah. But after Hornet knocks some sense into them, they become an ally and the main source of fast travel. They can't talk, but the little animations of them frolicking in mounds of bells are adorable. No words needed — The Bell Beast is an absolute unit of charm. 🔔
Garmond and Zaza: The Old Knight and His Bug Horse
Garmond is a knight, and Zaza is the little bug he rides like a horse. You'll find them resting in Greymoor. Don't let Garmond's age fool you — he's more than ready to throw down with the many villainous bugs and bosses. He can aid you in the fight against Moorwing, for example, and he'll ride in with Zaza several times throughout the story. Every time it happens, it's both surprising and badass. These two are pure hype. ⚔️
Nuu: The Alien Weirdo With a Quest
Nuu is one of the strangest creatures in
Silksong
— honestly, he looks more like an alien than a bug. You'll find him in the Halfway Home within Greymoor, and he's tied to one of the bigger quests, "Bugs of Pharloom." Complete it by finding and fighting a hundred different enemies, and Nuu will try to kiss Hornet. Her reward? A hardy slap. 😂 It's a hilarious moment, and with those lips, who couldn't see it coming?
Kratt: The Creepy Hot Tub Guy
Kratt is another Greymoor character, found near the entrance to Sinner's Road. He's in danger when you find him, but something's off. He promises a big reward after he returns to his flea troop. Get the fleas to Greymoor, and Kratt will be waiting with his hot tub trailer. Pay to take a dip, and his creepy little mug appears in the window, peeping with glee. He's a bit of a creep, but
Silksong
is better for having a deviant character like him. Think "Creepy Good" anime vibes. 🛁
Caretaker: The Grumpy Guardian of Songclave
Caretaker is one of the few new NPCs in The Citadel, hanging out in the small enclosure of Songclave. They were once the guardian of this area but found peace when things died down. That is, until Hornet rings the bell and Caretaker chastises her for drawing in pilgrims. Their irate attitude is comedy gold, and while they're a bit over the top, they do have a point — The Citadel isn't a peaceful sanctuary; it's a dangerous pit of doom filled with cultists. 😤
